My photography journey actually goes way back despite all the twists and turns that my life has taken. Back when I was registering at the Art Institute of Ft Lauderdale in 2000, for a Associate of Science degree in Graphic Design I was really wanting to major in Photography. I didn’t because I thought graphic design would open more doors for me since photography was a difficult field to be successful in at the time. Graphic design did provide opportunities for me for a while. In the GD course I did get to take some photography classes and loved it! I bought a Pentax camera at the time (I still have it) and started shooting. I even did a little photoshoot of my twin second cousins who are now sixteen. Photos below were taken with black and white film, unedited, printed years ago and scanned in recently. Photo quality is poor but this showcases my love for photography even way back then!
Once I began my career in GD, life took me on a different path and photography drifted off. I eventually discovered that I loved helping people and that I wanted to be a Physical Therapist Assistant and so I did. I worked hard for it and still practice today part time. I have two sons and they are my full time job that I love. At this point you are probably wondering where does photography fit back in. When my first son was born I couldn’t stop staring at him, he was my heart, my soul and my muse. With each passing day I stared even more until I picked up a camera again and never put it down. I am now doing something I’ve wanted to do for a long time but never believed I could. After practicing with my son for a while I finally took a leap of faith and did shoots for family and friends for free so I could build my skills, confidence and portfolio. All the while providing for them cherished memories frozen in time. With each shoot I have learned. I have learned about editing, poses, technicals, light, gear, but most of all I have learned about the importance of my job as a photographer. As a mom behind the camera I am trying to capture those special moments in my clients’ lives that they will never get back. The love and lust from a special someone in intimate surroundings. A celebration of commitment. A seductive secret for his eyes only. The moment when you are so round with the beauty of carrying a child to the birth of that child. All the little features of a newborn baby that will grow every day so fast that your memory can not possibly contain that little image anymore. The fun of baby’s first cake. A glance into your fiancée eyes before they turn wise with years. A family photo that shows the laughter amongst loved ones before that one day when their time has come and will be no longer. I am so lucky to be able to provide you with such keepsakes all the while doing what I love which is to create and capture beauty in every day moments that so quickly slip by. Thank you for taking this journey with me. I know you have many photographers to choose from these days so I am honored and looking forward to watching your children grow older and you wiser through my lens for years to come. Here is to freezing moments into forever memories, cheers!
